    Walshes

As Inov8 are so expensive these days can anyone tell me which is the best Walsh to buy.

I'm after a pure and simple fell running shoe suitable for Peak/Lake District?

That is exactly how I feel Maddaddy so have just had a pair of Walsh pb elite racers delivered to my door from the kind people of Pete Blands. They look well made and are nice and minimal but unfortunately I have mullered my ankle again so can't try them out yet.

My son uses Walsh PB junior, he has tried out a couple of runs in PB elite, both seem fine,

we have done one Reece into the peak district -
well performing shoe for Jake far superior to mine
does not grip on algae covered rocks in high water flow conditions
good on low temp. runs down to -8

I think the ultra extremes are a wider fit, if that helps? I don't know your location, but I've always found that as far as shoes go, it's a good idea to try them on for comfort and fit before you buy.
I went over to walshies for the same reason - cost - and then found that they last a helluva lot longer as well. Bargain!

    Re: Walshes

Yep PB Ultra Extremes here too as "proper fell" alternative to the Harriers. Far better grip on wet rock than the Harriers, which are frankly cack. Only problem I've found with the Walshes is that they have loose footbeds (as most shoes do) that for some reason ride out of the back of the shoe - very annoying. They're the only shoe I've had that does it; they're the correct size without doubt too. Time for super glue methinks! Other than that I do like em, not that they suddenly make a good runner like, but they do make you look like you know what you're doing! :w00t:

My insoles in the elite racers are already glued in Alfascud. Ankle feeling better so hope to try them out Sunday or Monday.

    Re: Walshes

Strange what you say about the Wave Harrier though, Alfa - without a doubt, my favourite shoe for most stuff! Well, for about nine months of the year, anyway. Not great in full-on wintery gloop and wet rock, as you say, but other than that, I love 'em!

    Re: Walshes

I use PB elite extreme and run in the peak district. They are hard wearing enough to cope with both the rocks and the wet peat. The foot bed for these is secured in no so problems riding up ( I have had this problem with the loose footbeds of Inov-8's which quickly rot and loose shape after prolonged use in peat).

Just be aware that initially you will "feel" different running in Walshes and you will go over on your ankles easier, (I did anyway) but once you are used to them the Walshes will feel lighter and are great to run in.
