Hi i have one of the old orange survival bags which i carry on ultras as per the kit requirement. I have seen foil blankets which are much smaller and lighter, just wondering if its possible to get foil bags?

I use a polyethene one (clear plastic) which is much more durable than foil, very light and it is acceptable as a survival bag.

I have one of these:

Really light, I have never used it in anger though!
Cheers. Pricey but i guess they do the job. Not that i want to use one in anger!

You can pick up the heat sheets bivvy for around £12 if you shop around.
For bad weather mountain marathons, etc I use a Wild Country goretex bivvy, weight 500grams not much heavier than the plastic bivvys and 100 times more effective (no condensation etc). I bought it in about 1985 for £80 but they are now much more expensive. I was extremely glad to have it in the OMM 2007 in the Lakes when I was warm and dry all night and all around were shivering and sleepless! Also indispensible for Winter climbing, alps etc.
The mentioned bag, Adventure Medical Kits Heatsheets Emergency Bivvy Bag (http://www.likeys.com/acatalog/info_635.html) is good. It's my main climbing and running emergency bag.
