    World Athletics Champs

OK, so they start this weekend  in Daegu (GMT +8) but don't appear to be on BBC TV - just 5live and 5live sports extra -someone tell me I've got this wrong?!

Schedule is here. First medals decided will be the woman's marathon and 10,000 metres on Saturday.

Anyway, can Mo do it like he's been doing it all season? Will he have chopped off that silly beard?

    cheers Dom
    here we are
So we'll be doing without Colin Jackson, Jonathan Edwards, Denise Lewis, Inverdale/Barker et al in front of camera (oh well), but the loss of Cram etc. behind the mike will be a shame.
Chanel 4's punditry line-up: Ortis Delay (Gadget Show, CBBC) and Rick Edwards (T4) will presumable be presenting and hopefully injecting some, *ahem* youthful enthusiasm compared to the usual Inverdale/Barker/Irvine/Balding squad. The pundits seem quite good as well, Michael Johnson is very good IMO, and Iwan Thomas, Catherine Merry, Dean Macey and Sonja McLoughlin should be a bit more exciting than Jackson/Edwards et al! I never realised Rob Walker was a top county athlete, but hopefully his fairly irritating snooker mannerisms won't grate too much with John Rawlings in the com box!

Normally I don't like to see sports go away from the BBC, but I hope c4 do a good job and we don't get too many adverts!

If you're desperate for BBC commentary you could always turn the radio on (5 live) and mute channel 4's commentary ! I used to do that sometimes when watching cricket.

Michael Johnson's gone over to Channel 4? On the BBC he was the only one worth listening to. Colin Jackson would waffle some old nonsense whilst everything Johnson said was interesting.

at least they've taken the good bit! I agree that MJ and Cram are the only really interesting members of the BBC crew.
Whether Johnson'll be back on the Beeb for the Olympics, I presume he will be (unless C4 have bought up a whole tranche of athletics events and tied him to a contract).

Anyone know why he doesn't work for US TV? You'd think they'd have snapped him up!

Athletics is a very, very marginal sport in the US. I guess he earns more over here. As well as the next 2 World Championships, C4 has also bought the rights to the 2012 Paralympics.

I can't say I'm disappointed that BBC has lost the rights to the athletics, in recent years, their coverage has been one big chat show with the odd bit of live action thrown in. In spite of the adverts, Eurosport shows much more live action, and less of the boring chat between the pundits.

Awful commentary, dreadful coverage, too many advertising breaks.

Give it back to the beeb.

Absolutely agree with all that, they would have been completely lost without Michael Johnson and Kathryn Merry.
    A bunch of amateurs!
    Bring back Claire Balding!
