    Putting grid refs into garmin

    Hello,

Does anyone know an imbecile's guide to uploading grid refs from places like google maps etc onto a Garmin Forerunner 305 please?

Is it possible to type them in manually?

    Thanks:thumbup:

on the 305 you have to use Lat/long. (if you have a computer in front of you changing grid to lat/long is easy enough via google). Its just a faff putting them in manually.

Ive never been able to upload them to the 305 either... I just sit down, put some good music on and try not to think how much easier it would be if I spent more money on ANOTHER bit of gear which would upload them all automatically

Now, as for actually inputting them,
press the mode button until you get to the menu page, go into the navigation menu, and there should be an option to mark location.
Go into the "mark location" bit and you will be presented with a screen which shows the current location in lat/long, a number (possible 001 if this is the first one you are marking), altitude and a few other bits an bobs.

If you use the arrow keys to highlight the bit with the lat/long numbers in, select it, then you can change the numbers individually using the up and down arrow keys until you get to the lat/long numbers required. You can also change the "001" number to an 8 figure name, again by selecting that bit and changing the numbers individually.

Its quite a labour intensive process, but you find you get faster at it over time.
Your fingertips may hurt a little by the end of it as well.

    hope that helps

Yes, I once asked Garmin customer support about this. They confirmed it's not possible but would consider adding the feature to newer models. No idea if they've done so on the latest.
