    First hill race in Scotland

I was looking at doing my first hill race in Scotland, somewhere near the central belt, mayby in the Ochil hills. The Dumyat dash for instance. Am not a member of any hill running club, so was wondering if I can just turn up and register at an event, taking a full body cover with me. What are the rules for your first race.

    And this:

Yes, just turn up with the right gear and pay up (probably cost you £2 more if you're not a member).

The Dumyat is a short (AS) race, so you may not have to carry any or all of your kit (it's compulsory for long ones). The decision will probably be made on the day, depending on the local conditions, so always take your gear to a race and find out the score.

Be no problem to turn up for Dumyat Dash and just register on the day.

Full windproof body cover is required.

If you are local to the Ochils and looking to run with a club you would be welcome here:

Contact the race organiser, if you wish:

In principle, you turn up on the day, cough up your dosh and register. Take the kit with you and find out if you need it.

You don't have to be a fit racing snake to join a running club, all clubs have runners of all sorts of ability. The common ground is that they like running. Why not find a club, give them a bell and see what it's like?

If you want a good hill race to run I would recommend Tinto in early November.A great runnable downhill.
