Just wondering if anybody has got these shoes if so what are peoples thoughts about them.

I own a pair. Great shoe, use mine for trail running on stoney ground if it's a bit softer I go for trail minimus. I hear they can be good an the tamer fells when dry. Not sure if they are worth nearly twice the cost of a pair of mt101's though. A year or so a go a few people on here swore by 285's I know twister was a big fan. If I was you I'd probably go for 101's and a pair of trail minimus. They won't cost you much more than 1 pair of 285's.

been looking at the new balance minimus, what's the grip like?
I wear 285s and rate them for long trailly runs. Ideal for PPP, Yorkshireman, Haworth Hobble etc. My last pair cost 55quid from Bradford. Great grip on dry rock (I did recce of BG leg 3 in them) and wear them on treadmill too. The only running shoe I wear apart from Walshes

Fine in the dry, don't think you'd stay upright too long in the mud though. Only really use them trails without lots of loose sharp stone or doing laps of a field. Tend to take em with me a in bag on my regular trail run. Do majority of it in 285's and then last section in minimus to gradually build up the time I use them without injury.

Good advice from Eavesy there Mt101s are fantastic shoes - it's not worth paying a premium for inov8s when you can get New Balance MT101, which are better and cheaper. I still use x-talons/mudclaws on proper wet fells but 101s for everything else includng dry Peak District fells in the summer.
I also use the Roclite 285 and NB minimus trail (formerly used f-lite 230s); the minimus I love for nearly all training - bogs, trails and roads (I'm already into a second pair), but for a trail race with stoney surfaces and occasional mud I definitely switch to the 285s. The 285s have a great grip and provide better protection running fast on stones, and in a race I like the narrower, tighter fit of the 285s. I haven't used the MT101 (wasn't interested in them), but look forward to the new MT110 as a trail racing shoe (minimus last but with added rockplate) - at least when my 285s finally crap out.
