Last night Walter Bonatti passed away. He was 81 years old and one of the greatest legends of alpinism of all times.
There will be a few old hands on here who will know of this great man, a real legend sadly missed.

Sad news. Although it could be argued that 81 is a good age for a cutting edge alpinist.
A mate was over there last week and reported that another big chunk of the Dru has recently come down. Something appropriate about that coinciding with the great man's passing.
It is a shame that his account of what happened on K2 was not fully accepted until late in his life.
