Maps- What do ya use ?

I'm used to having and using maps when out walking etc, but what
do ya use when out running in the mountains ?Do you use print outs from mapping software, cut down maps or full maps ?When running along it can't be very practical to have a full map sheet can it ?CheersPaul

I'm fairly new to the mountain running myself, but I go to races prepared with either a printout from MemoryMap with the route marked on it, or a colour photocopy of an OS map. Normally I put it in a Tesco ziplock bag, but if it's small enough I might laminate it. I get especially excited when I can create a double-sided laminated map.

    same here.
I usually photocopy or print the route from MemoryMap and stick it in some sort of clear plastic bag. I had about 12 a4 sheets at 1:10000 when I did the Fellsman!

I usually photocopy the section and cover it in sticky back plastic. It's more waterproof than a plastic bag and more flexible than laminating.

Photo-copies, cut up maps, printouts from digital maps and other printed interweb stuff. Map case or placky bag. I am far to clumsy for sticky back plastic

Harveys for up on the hills, OS for rights of way?access land.

No matter what mapping i use. I normally use it very badly

Sticky back plastic, Dan? I bet you got that idea from Blue Peter, didn't you? (At least that's what they used back in the 60's and 70's!)

I like it and I've seen it, but what exactly is it called in the shops, and where do you get it from? I assume it comes in sheets? Thanks

I did as it goes Geoff, sticky back plastic survived right through to the 90s on Blue Peter!

They sell it in craft shops Stuart just ask for sticky back plastic they'll know what you mean -unless they're about 16 years old!

I've got a map of Bleaklow, which I covered up 18 months ago, it's still going strong and it's sat in my bumbag through a lot of bad weather.

Whilst reading this, I had an idea.

Does anyone use anything like this:

You could make very flexible and light route-specific maps.
