Would that be due to the risk of 'accidents'?
By the way, you wouldn't happen to be taking part in this year's Vegan 15 Peaks, would you?
No, sadly. When I saw it I thought of volunteering straight away but I've got the South Downs marathon the weekend before and Trail Marathon Wales the weekend after. With the Lakeland Trails Marathon one more week after that I thought it might be overdoing things a bit.

Not keen, just crap at scheduling.

    Martin
There ought to be a couple of us Ackworth runners over for it; Gail Wrangles & myself, with the possibilty of at least another two also appearing (Pat Wood & Craig Tipton)

As still a relative 'newbie' myself,I'll give you my take on this

I'll be honest, I ran the 2010 event as my first (proper) Fell-Race, having only run the last 4 rounds of the 2009 'Trunce' series before, as off-road competition.
It was tough (as a 'newbie'), but still fun!

I also carry a whistle (tied to bum-bag with a couple of feet of elastic cord), a space rescue blanket (the silver Mylar ones)

I'm not sure where you are exactly (you just stated 'Wakefield/Leeds area'), but try the outdoors shop at 'Spring Green Nursery' (Sharlston), or Tordoffs in Pontefract for kit?
Failing that, there's plenty of outdoorsy shops at 'FreePort' (opposite Xscape)

When I ran the Holme Moss Fell-Race, I also stuck some gels & Jelly Babys in it, but for something liks the 'Splash' wouldn't unless the forecast was definately grim

Thanks Richard. I've spent the weekend tracking down a waterproof hooded top with taped seams, a bum bag, Corby trouser press, blanket, cuddly toy, Teas-Made, compass, a pair of Val's knickers and a whistle. As long as my wp trousers turn up by the weekend I'll be there.

I'll be bloody slow if I have to carry that lot with me though....

Did my first race carrying nearly all of the required kit today. I left the compass in the car. One thing I noticed is that I didn't at any stage notice that I was wearing a bumbag full of kit. Great stuff.

It was a fair step up from the only other fell race that I've done (Giant's Tooth) but, yeah, really enjoyable.

well done - I saw you at the start. It was a very tough race into the wind. I have run this race a number of times and was slower than ever.

Thanks Wycoller. Only spoke to a few people. Two I already sort of knew and one woman who asked if I was full of beans. I don't know if that was a comment on my veganism or some obscure Yorkshire flirting!

Today I have aches and pains in places I never knew I had. Fell running gives a whole body workout it seems. Love it.
