FitC - In a rare moment of "aged man on the computer has a sensible thought" I checked to see if my spam filter was on - it was and guess what appeared when I turned it off ??? All registered and waiting to see if I get a place on the CCC. Thanks again for your offer of help.
No problem. Good luck with the draw.
From the UTMB Facebook page... "The UTMB®, as of today, is over-subscribed at 165 %, the CCC® 130 %". So by my calculation, the odds of getting through the ballot will be less than 75% for the CCC and less than 60% for the UTMB.:>(

As of now there are 260 UK runners registered or waiting for the UTMB. They are likely to select about 145 UK runners in the draw (based on their selection formula) including the 35 already registered, meaning about 110 places will be contested by 225 runners. Less than a 50% chance of a place. Also, if the unlucky runners all rollover for next year it is likely there will only be a few remaining places for anybody thinking of entering in 2013! Perhaps they could add a 5th race!!
What is their selection formula?. Never seen this published anywhere.
If they stick to the formula they created when they first started the lottery it was based on a fixed number for a country based on past participation. For the UTMB this appears to have worked out at about 145 per year for UK-based runners over the last 3 years. This formula clearly allows France to have significantly more runners per event than other countries with Italy coming second. This gets around the possibility that, in an open ballot where each runner had the same opportunity, you could end up with less French runners than some other country which I suspect would be greeted with a great deal of protest. I'm sure the rules of the lottery are published somewhere.
The PTL was undersubscribed (you don't say....!) so we're in.
Now, how exactly does one train for a 300km event?
It appears that for a lot of people 2013 looks a good bet then.
