    Inov8 Race Pro 4

Bumbag with horizontal 2l bladder - is it any good?

Considering it as an alternative to the usual camelbak-type backpack thingy.

I asked the very same thing to mr merrylegs less that 24hrs ago.

He said "got a rucksack now, more room than the bumbag, gave that to my mate, tended to work itself loose with running. "

I didn't like mine Jan, got a bumbag with a bottle carrier and a rucksack for longer stuff, carries a bladder and/or bottles

I've not tried the Race Pro 4 but have tried both Inov 18L and Camelback. I much prefer the horizontal bladder system as its comfy and the weight is close to your own centre of gravity. You do need to tighten it when you drink as you are reducing the volume of the bladder but I don't even notice doing it.

I rather like mine. I put the amount of water I need in and have never filled it. I can't stand any 'sloshing' so any bottle is out. I find it a bit bulkier than the RP2 but neat enough and don't notice it once it starts to hurt. I only use it for longer outings like Langdale or shorter stuff like Kentmere if its hot.

Thanks all, I guess I'll see how I get on with one! Have always used a backpack but keen to try an alternative. Like the idea of having the bumbag sat on your hips, isn't it meant to make running easier in that it takes strain off shoulders etc.? Mind you, not planning on running anything like a MM where I'd be much happier with a bag full o' stuff.

I've got one and its good. I prefer the horizontal bladder to the vertical type as I'm not too keen on wearing a backpack.

Its suprisingly roomy as well, has 2 hip pockets and a nice big pocket in the back for sarnies and jacket!!
The only downside is you can't tell how much you've drunk and its not quite as easy to fill up. I bought a RaidLight Endurance 2 bottle bum bug the other day for that reason, thats a nice bit of kit as well!!

Ta for that Shaun. Toss up between the two then? I do prefer the idea of having 2l of fluid on a hot day. Which of these has more room for kit though?
