I'd recommend Ripon Runners too. They are a really welcoming bunch and they train on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Lots of fell, long distance and ultra runners in there too. Nosemi, Masham Man and Fairyfeet are all from Ripon.

I run with Thirsk and Sowerby but have hooked up with the runners from Ripon to do long stuff on a weekend a few times. Last winter we had a cracking run through the snow from Galphay over the moor and down into Pateley along the river back up via Brimham and back to Galphay. Masham Man also organised a great club weekend that took in the LDWA Four Lakeland Passes staying in the hostel there. People of all abilities went.

Thanks for the responses. Confused now though!!

I'm going to have to travel half an hour in any direction (only Ripon is perhaps 20 minutes) so that's not really a consideration for me. Shame there's no local club but there you have it.

Not sure about Wharfedale being a club for nutters. I'm definately no nutter and it's being out on the hills I like not necessarily just racing. Not sure.

Ripon...hmmm, not sure either. Lived in Ripon for a few years. Not many hills round there. Not ruled them out though.

Otley may be a contender. Good hills there.

    ...hmmmmmmmmm.....

Two further choices are available. Move - seems unlikely given that fact that you have only just landed in PB or Start you own club from tiny acorns ..... and all that, if its so far for people to travel to any club of note then there will clearly be others in your position.

Why not visit each of the clubs on a training night and see what they are like?

I could try and set up my own club but it would take time (if possible at all) and that leaves me short of training in the meantime.

That's not a bad idea. Thanks.
