    Re: BG Training

I have every sympathy Andy...but I am sure you'll be fine... you have lots of experience and big days in your legs.

I have had a nightmare at the 11th hour: best part of 2 weeks off work with Campylobacter (diarrhoea and vomitting); lost a stone (going back on now though) and feel completely wasted.

I am still planning to go a week on Friday (25th) but going to the Lakes tomorrow to look at Scafell via Foxes and the Climber's Traverse. If that goes OK, game on, but if not then postpone for a few weeks. To re-arrange will be easier said than done.

And it had all been going so well........

Avoided real injuries; 10,000' a week; great support; know what to eat and reached the confidence point where I was ready to go.

    .....but is not yet lost

You've had a worse time than me Simon - I haven't actually been feeling too bad most of the time, just not enough breath to run without doing myself damage. And if I lost a stone I'd probably be in hospital. But yes - I was all ready & knew I was fit enough, so it's so frustrating to have gone backwards at just the wrong time. Mind you, like you I'm still going for it. Positive thinking's the only way anyone's ever got round. Good luck on the 25th. I'm heading up to the Duddon Valley that weekend for a lads' walking weekend (old lads that is), & a recce of the way off Robinson on the Sunday.

    Re: BG Training

Well the trip up to the Lakes was a good test and made it abundantly clear that I have a good deal of recovering to do. Went up and met Mrs Crumbly and struggled to keep up any sort of pace. Did ODG to Wasdale and back in pretty well perfect conditions, and we were on our feet for about 7 hours.

Thus, attempt postponed to sometime in July in order to get myself in as good a position as possible... infuriating as I felt so good before THAT kebab

Just need to organise my time off work and muster my support again... easier said than done.

Tough luck Simon. No kebab problem here; perhaps it's time you went veggy too. Make or break time for me too - chest problem's still not gone away. I've been out running three times this week though, & got away with it. So...tomorrow I'm off to try to run the Gritstone Trail again. If I get away with 33 miles & the hills then it's ho for the Lakes in 2 weeks' time. Even if I don't I'll probably still have a go, come to think of it...

Just keep ticking over Andy. You've done all the hard work and anything from now on is just icing on the cake. It's much more important to start this on fresh legs with loads of energy in reserve than slightly jaded from many big mileage/climbing weeks.

Checking the weather forecast, it looks like Sunday will be the better day so I'm driving up to Keswick with the dog for a meander around the first two legs.

I'm happier now: 59 miles & over 8000 feet since Tuesday. The taper starts here. Move over ksimon - there's room for 2 on that sunbed.
