    Mmm..food...

    1) Huge quantities of bars on the go: trackers, frusli, geobars mostly.
    2) On arrival at midcamp electrolyte / carb drinks until peeing well.
    3) Miso soup and some chilli crackers or croutons (vast quantities of calories). 4) A mixture of couscous and pasta with dehydrated veg and spices in a foil bag rehydrated for an aeon so it's very soft.
    5) Some cereal with custard or condensed milk from a tube for pud, and more of the same for breakfast.
    6) Assorted drinks of tea and hot choc depending on the weather.

Our packs weigh about 5kg, of which 2kg is probably food!

Tee hee - the first mountain marathoner ever to complete the course in her partner's bum bag

On another note - what about drinks? Bottles or bladders? Water as well as energy drinks? Carry it all, or use streams?
I think I'll walk this bit....

Mug on the waistbelt for passing streams and gels, some powder to make up for rehydration in camp. Carrying water seems counter-intuitive to me... but then again perhaps if we had we would have done better :-)

Also go for a mug on the waistbelt and carry no water- have occasionally had to go too long without a drink though but I just can't face carrying water after trying to keep the pack weight down.

I find it depends on the length of the stage/day's running. I have also had SiS Go bars on the run and used Carb Boom gels, which have good palatability, weigh v.little and come in a variety of flavours (some including caffeine..)

What do people like to eat on Mountain Marathons? For breakfast, on the run, and dinner time?

Try Clif bars, they're from America a nice tasty energy bar (try the chocolate chip). They are full of carbs and you can eat then whilst on the go!

Just read this carefully, and it's put me straight on a few things too. I actually get it now, that we're meant to go hungry - "It is necessary to restrict food intake......"

I'll have to be careful though, as I can get quite hypoglyceamic, which makes me very wobbly, weak and lightheaded - certainly not an ideal state to be trying to do a mountain marathon in!

So - bars, sweets and custard score highly. Lots of people carrying energy powders to mix into stream water to make energy drinks. Gels. Some like 'real' food, some like the 'expedition' type meals (I might try these over the coming few weeks).

Might give the grass and caterpillars a miss - tho quite like the idea of doing it Ray Mears style

Do you all bother taking a sleeping mat?
I think I'll walk this bit....
