Yeah any tips from 2-3-4 would be most appreciated?

I guess 2-3 you pick up the track nearby, but 3-4? back on yourself and contour around or straight line and sod the height loss?

You'll only try the straight line route once! I must try it one day to see how much longer it is, but I bet it would take at least twice as long. You'll know what is best after your recce. It's quite an obvious route unless the mist is down. Enjoy it. It's a cracking route.

I don't know what other rules of thumb people may use, but, the one I was taught as a child is: every foot of climb is equivalent to six foot on the flat.

    Quick route description:

    Up Rispar is tussocky.
Along to Uldale Head is boring.
Descent off Uldale Head is cracking ~ just let go.
    Contour to Linghaw interesting.
    Descent off Linghaw is fantastic.
    Up Blease fell is awsome.
Off Blease fell goes on....and on....and on....and on........
Easy! Who needs a map !

Finish off with a shower then pie & peas and a pint in the village hall.
See the light in the night

I presume this is referring to CP2 to CP3 (Uldale Head to Linghaw). I haven't done it yet either but the formulas I've tried all seem to suggest there's not much in it in terms of time! A fast runner will obviously prefer the traditional, more roundabout, route but someone who was "Bob Graham" fit with super climbing legs could probably do the direct at least as fast.

    It's an intriguing idea.

PS - A group of us did a recce run round the course about a year ago and I did consider trying the directissima but bottled out as I didn't feel all that brave. However, the way I climbed Blease Fell afterwards had me kicking myself for not going for the straight (ish) line to Linghaw. I will be back (as someone once said)
