    MM kit tips

I seem to have been talked into entering my first ever mountain marathon

Has anyone got any top tips regarding kit please? Not which brand of toothbrush is easiest to drill holes in, or which tent is 7gms lighter than another, but rather kit which can help make MM's more fun and enjoyable

A warm top for the overnight camp.

Hot chocolate sachets. And, yes, a warm top. Not a top which used to be warm ten years ago, like the one I took on my first MM.

A miniature bottle of whiskey, a waterbladder full of wine, or beer in your case perhaps?

Beer and Milk as I recall. The year I did it last (that was Bowfell) we found our way to a Pub on the Saturday - went for a walk along a nearby lane and a lady in a 4x4 stopped and asked "Do you want a lift to the Pub lads?". Well, it would have been rude to have refused wouldn't it? I'm doing Kirkfell this year as a concession to having done Mont Blanc Marathon the weekend before. Regards kit - I look forward to others answers, too. My top of the range lightweight kit is probably a bit heavy by todays standards. I do like this website though - http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/

Not "kit" exactly, but I would recommend having a partner who is slower than you if you want to enjoy the weekend.

If you are not worried about a little weight, then I would suggest a thin set of dry top and bottom to relax in and warm up during the evening. A couple of waterproof bags to put your dry, warm feet in so you can wear your wet trainers around the campsite. A permanent pen or two for any map marking you wish to do and when you are both issued with your maps, one of you put a full set away safe and just keep one working set out. I've seen enough maps blowing around the hills and have bumped into one pair who had lost both sets.
