I must compile a summary of all the CVR times for 2013 - been too busy. Hope to have another run round it myself in the next couple of months as well. Good to hear the route directions are OK - it needs concentration if you don't know the area.

CALDER VALLEY ROUND - 16 miles and 4000'
This went a bit dormant last year so thought I would try and revive some interest - here's a reminder of what it's all about.
This is a training run cum challenge equivalent to a Category AL fell race. It starts from Mytholmroyd - full details are on its own web page here:
http://www.gofar.org.uk/caldervalley...challenge.html
it is recommended you use the route sheet as well as the pdf map
To add a bit of interest there are a range of Target Times for the serious runners out there.
Elite - sub 2-45, A class - sub 3-15, Standard - over 3-15
It's all on the web page but it's all dead simple:
•Download the route sheet/map from the web page.
•Run round the route at any time to suit yourself.
•Register your time and club on this thread.
•Personal registrations only please - do not register other runners times.
•Like most worthwhile things in life this all depends on honesty so please stick strictly to the route described.
•A "results" summary will be published at the year end.
Good Running for 2015!!

I thought I'd make sure at least one round was notched up in 2015 so I ran and paddled my way round this yesterday (19/11/15). Interesting conditions - mud, floods, wind, rain - the wettest I've seen it. Hippins Clough was a raging torrent - with the ruin of Staups Mill it must be one of the best valleys in the South Pennines.
A minor route change is now required. They have demolished the footbridge over the railway just before you get to Rochdale Canal so it's best just to keep on down the track under the tunnel to the main road and turn right to the point where the path comes down from the (now demolished) footbridge. I'll amend the map/route guide in due course. There is no mistaking the path across Erringden Moor now. In the last 5 years it's gone from a faint path to a well worn groove. It just shows how fragile the peat moors are!
For anyone who has not done it the CVR provides a great roller coaster training run round the heart of the Calder valley in any season.

[QUOTE=MOUNTAIN MAN;617200 They have demolished the footbridge over the railway just before you get to Rochdale Canal[/QUOTE]
The bridge has now been replaced and looks like it's going to be open soon.
Must do this round again soon.
Good news - I was thinking of having a jog round - probably a week Sunday 7th Feb. Hopefuly it will be drier than last time I did it!
Ran this great route this morning. Splits were:
Old Town Mill 32
Gibson Mill 54
Staups Mill 1.39
Sttodley Pike 2.16
Track Junction 2.46
Park Cottage 3.00?
White Lion 3.10
Unfortunately railway bridge still not open so that adds about 1/4 mile. Weather was drizzly most of the way, but better than the forecasted heavy rain, so wet underfoot and the water around Dick's Lane was very cold. Didn't have much route knowledge so lots of slowing/stopping to read notes and check position. Will have to give it another go and see if I can improve.

Steady saunter round this last Friday 14 Oct 16. New railway bridge in place now.
3.43 Tony Wimbush Skipton AC and Sean Lennon Idle AC.
Our annual saunter round this last Friday (3 Nov). We took the scenic route to Gibson Mill by the river. The route from Stoodley Pike to Dick Lane has been surfaced now so is much easier and quicker going. 3.39 Tony Wimbush (skipton AC) and Sean Lennon (U/A)
16 miles and 4000' so a challenging run on a varied route - the Calderdale Way in miniature Details here: http://www.gofar.org.uk/caldervalley...challenge.html
The official start is by the former White Lion pub but parking is no longer available. Try the Community Centre Car park over the bridge near by.
Went round this yeasterday. Strong winds and really wet underfoot but a bit quicker than last time in November.
Tony Wimbush (Skipton AC) 3.31
Rachel Hill(U/A) 3.31
