soft tissues = muscles, tendons, ligaments and in the knee the meniscii...muscles are the quickest to heal as they have a relatively good blood supply, other structures slower as blood supply is poor. sadly slow recover can be months - I know, having torn a meniscus in my knee - took about 9 months before I could fully straighten my knee (and I too had to wait over 2 months to get an MRI scan). not wanting to shock you, but just empathise really. it is frustrating, but pushing yr doctor/specialist/consultant to get an MRI is the only way you'll actually know what is damaged, and how long that is likely to take to heal. get to see a good sports & remedial massage therapist so you can get good treatment and strengthening exercises to assist healing - and importantly a realistic view on when you will be able to run.
best of luck,
Lynne
