At least, I was able to see the funny side of this, in an especially ironic fashion.

It is very tempting, RR seems so close from GK. The view from the brook, though, is not so favourable, especially because you can hear the finish line to your right.

I'd strongly advise you to use the orthodox route on your first run.
BL - Many thanks - I will indeed stick to the orthodox route this year and hopefully sometime I will be able to get across for a recce and a time trial of the 2 choices. It has not been possible this year, especially with a last minute entry.

    Thanks again.

I tried on a training run. Done both options and the time difference was comparable to BL. And that was coming from Edale via from Hollings Cross. After the full race it would probably be worse. The climb is very difficult with the heather and rocks.

You would need to do a time trial after running round the course (so that's twice). The choice is between a relatively flat, but long way round, and an extremely demanding but shorter down and up. I wasn't especially fit last year and remember just stopping on the climb up and laughing at my foolhardiness, with added infantry curses, such as the classic 'you f***ing stupid t*ss*r'.

There are some good photos on Google Earth, the ones taken from the path up to RR show the view over to GK.

Any information on this would be very useful and appreciated.

    Thanks - Paul
As has been said, unless you are a VERY strong climber and descender and a top 30 runner I would go round. you will loose out otherwise, I ve done it training many times and both ways, there is a racing line but unless you know it join the mortals...

I have seen reference to Hope and Mam Nick, but cannot see anything www race info.

Plenty out recceying over the weekend I noticed , and plenty of stud marks on all the 'racing lines'
Big water stations at Hope and Mamnick, don't count on Jacobs ladder as what is there is carried up and saved for those in desperate need. there are streams after JL that do provide water but they are quite low at the moment.

I did the second half this morning from Mamnick. much wetter than last week, also quite cold. as you say plenty of stud marks on most of the route but 2 of the "race lines" were almost studless??
