    Re: Runs near the M6

SE of M6 J33 ( Lancaster S ), actually SE of the Lancaster M6 Service Area, is a small moorland plateau called Nicky Nook; seperated from the main Bowland Massif by the enclosed land of Fell End Farm. In addition to the CROW Act open land, there are lots of PBWs & PFPs across the adjacent enclosed farm land and UU reservoirs.
Search for Scorton (Lancashire) on streetmap.co.uk , then work E, ideally using the 1:25,000 scale.

All of the above are good, but if you are crossing the a66, for a classic alternative to the above mentioned routes, carry on the a66 until the appleby turn off then head for Dufton and run up High cup nick, scrambling out the top of the nick and fly down the bridleway back to Dufton. To run up through highcup nick is one of the great routes in the country IMO

if you are going that way M6/A66 use the A686 hartside pass to go via Alston to Hexham/Haydon Bridge though in winter this represents risks from snow and ice , I used to live in Penrith and had to go over to Gateshead on a regular basis, lots of routes straight off the road
or pick up the road at Brough B6276 to B6277 at Barnard Castle to avoid the snow gates on the A66 if they close the road - though this again represents risks from ice and snow.
