    Noonstone fell race

Do you know that due to pressure from a set of ********* Tod Harriers (I am a member and ex Chairman) has had to abandon any future running of this race!! We upset the Twite apparently!!

Could the route not be adapted to avoid this, or is it a foregone conclusion?

As the perspective RO of this year's Noon Stone I can confirm it will not go ahead. As the RO I have the right to say that.
I will not be replying again and have asked Brett to disable my account.

Sorry Duff, maybe I wasn't clear. I totally accept that this years race has to be cancelled, I was just wondering if a possible route change could reduce the environmental impact of the race and avoid Tod Harriers losing a classic course. I have never done the Noonstone myself although I have heard positive things about it and fancied doing it in the future. (I appreciate I may be talking to myself here if your account is disabled, but hey why not)

Apparently Twite prefer ferns to heather when they have a choice and Withens Clough is mentioned as a conservation area. That would suggest that The Good Shepherd Race could be affected as well?. The main route of the Noonstone passes through heather in that area South of Warland Drain with the fern North of Warland Drain down to the reservoir if I remember correctly. The moor and heather often gets burnt anyway in the summer so would be unsuitable as a bird conservation area. Warland Drain acts as a firebreak so that area North of the drain would have some protection against fire.

I am all for conservation though so if they say they need the heather as well I wouldn't complain.

Not really. I guess its Colin's way of saying don't expect me to reply to any comments made re Noonstone cancellation. Either feelings are running high, or as stated by Graham Breeze elsewhere, its really not good for the RO to get involved in on-line discussion atm

On behalf of the Current Chairman of Todmorden Harriers, Mandy Goth (as she is not a member of the FRA forum)

Please note that the initial post does not reflect the views of the Todmorden Harriers Committee (and is factually incorrect)
