If you take the entry requirements to its natural conclusion, i.e. only allow those with realistic chances of winning to enter, how many competitors at the Nationals, Northerns or North Easterns can realistically win the event half a dozen, a dozen for medals, not much of an event!

Trust me, it can be a problem on some courses. Its rare to get significantly held up but its very easy to lose sight of the people you're racing against. Like I said, usually not a problem on 3 lap courses as you're lapping fewer people for less time. On some 4 lap courses you can be lapping people for over half the race which surely most would agree isn't ideal as you make inroads into a lot more than just the very back of the field!

I'm riding over to watch the 'Northern Cross-Country Chapmpionships' in Pontefract Park this afternoon with a couple of girls from the Club
I should be there in time for the Juniors, then stop to see the senior races.

Come & say "Hello", if you're there. I'll be in the Featherstone Road-Club bib-tights (& possbily top too), blue Giro helmet, on a Dyna-Tech 755Ti (grey/blue, with mudguards), or a silver cross-biek)

Two fantastically sized fields for the senior races, I'd reckon it was knocking on the door of 400 for the mens race.

Didn't stop till the end of the mens, as it was getting far too bloody cold to be standing about, but the front-runners were certainly moving at a damned good pace!

Having been crowned Northern 10K Road Champions at the end of their 50th year, not a bad way to begin Altrincham's 51st year as Northern XC Champions!

    Superb day!
I took a few photos before I raced.
Will take me until tonight to get them all uploaded though - training comes before photography.
