    Ankle weights

Does anyone train with ankle weights? I wonder whether they are beneficial when training on the road. Or do they increase the chance of injuries?

I have only ever used ankle weights in aerobics, never in running, but i guess if you got weak ankles, they might help strengthen them up...

I'd say they're bad for running; if you want to make it tougher putting bricks in a rucksack might be just the ticket

Get your self on the boggiest bit of the peak and run intervals. That will work the legs.

Try run round the watershed route

Sounds like a recipe for injury to me.

Don't think they are much cop for running, better just heading for some hills or doing some resistance work.

The weights would bring resistance to the muscles that lift the upper and lower leg when running.

A couple of problems though. Firstly when the leg is swung through before planting, the weights would increase the pendulum effect. This could cause over-extension of the knee.

The biggest problem though is the weights rubbing on your legs and moving about whilst running. That in itself will make you lose interest after a couple of tries.
