Thank you very much for your advice. The arguments sound persuasive - it doesn't seem worth buying ankle weights.
Anyone do / done it?
I imagine bruising / ankle injuries are par for the course, but worth it for the benefits?
Just a thought. I did think of this a long time ago, but never did it. But sat here now its seems counter-productive. As in, weight on your ankles amounts to weight lifted by the quads etc. Running is more of a pushing action, I dare say theres some science that would say its still potentially benificial. But I'd say, as a slightly qualified lay-man that squats, bench steps or just plain hill work as suggested is the best bet for improving leg strength. Tho' my favourite leg strengthening method is the cross trainer!
Before investing in ankle weights, how about a jog in water-filled wellingtons, just to see how you go on? I would think it would have a similar effect and wouldn't cost anything.
His socks would get wet!
Well he'll have that fell running feeling then, even on the road. Win-win, eh?
Ah!! Good point!!...maybe some gravy browning to just get the socks the right colour too!?
