    Recession question

How many local councillors or MP's have been made redundant or lost their jobs in the current recession?

Technically we're not in recession just a period of very low growth.

Technically, as far as I am aware, a councillor cannot be made redundant as it is not a renumerated position; they are volunteers serving their community, albeit they are re-imbursed for bona-fide out of pocket expenses. Now MP's are a very different kettle of fish!!
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

I think I see where you might be going with this Stagger. How about royalty, how many of them were made redundant during the recent recession?

A very low number of royalty I think noel. However, 100% of Grandmasters on this here forum have been made redundant in the last few years. Nothing to do with excessive posting in work time obviously :closed:

I'm always intrigued by how much 'expenses' vary between councillors. Over by me councillor(s) claimed expenses for meetings they 'could have' gone to, even though they didn't....

I hear Eric Joyce has just pleaded guilty to 4 charges of assault at Westminster Magistrates' Court, so we'll see.

There are probably hundreds of meetings I could have gone to. Multidisciplinary workshop in New Zealand anyone?

He doesn't have to resign unless he gets more than 12 months in jail, which he won't. But saying that he did take a swipe at the desk sergeant, quite an aggravating feature! I expect he'll stand down whatever happens. Or at least I hope he does!

Took a swipe at? And missed I assume. We need more politicians like John Prescott.
