Garmin 405 Virtual Partner

Have been using mine for a while now but never really used the virtual training partner. I'm doing the Three Peaks, does anyone know if it's possible to use it during the race as a comparison to my garmin tracks from last year? Can it show me if I'm behind / ahead of last year's race??

I think what you need to do is create a course in the Garmin Training Centre program on your PC. This can be done by taking one of your previous workouts, then creating a course from the workout by right clicking, then selecting "create course". You can then export this course to your Garmin 405. I've not tried this myself, but I'm fairly sure you can then race your previous trace. I'm going to try this in the next couple of days, so I'll let you know how I get on.

Seems to work OK. The only issue I've had is due to rogue trackpoints on the course I created, probably due to the very cloudy weather we've had recently. This makes the gap between course and actual jump around a bit.
