    Insect Repellant

Please can anyone suggest an insect repellant that works? I want it to use in the Southern French mountains, if that makes any difference (no midge there). PS I did try to search for this but nothing came up.

Which is wrong. I've tested it under extreme midge conditions

Which was talking about mosquitoes. Does it work for biting insects other than midges?

I think it's a personal (skin) chemistry thing. SSS works great for me but I have friends who find it useless. Worth a try though.
I also sometimes use OFF! (Skintastic) but it contains DEET (as do most) so I do so sparingly (if you've ever spilt products with DEET in on a plastic lined toiletry bag you'll know why!) - it's also a bit sticky.

If it works for you, it works against everything in my experience - but I've never been to S. France!

Useful discussion with several comparison tables HERE. Has anyone tried Autan Active? Autan speak well of it HERE!
