Interesting letter in the Guardian today about cheating in football, and how this makes it so much more difficult for the officials than it would otherwise be. The author contrasts football with tennis and golf, where he feels "sportsmanship and self-regulation are considerably more apparent". Certainly diving, shirt-pulling, claiming for throw-ins and corners are all visible in every game, and managers "tacitly condone this behaviour".

Imagine a game of football where there was no cheating and you could trust the players to police themselves - wouldn't it be wonderful?
