    3 Peaks Race Shoes

Just wondering what are the best shoes to wear for the 3 peaks fell race Inov8s, XTalons, or trail shoes.

Inov8 315s or Mizuno Wave Harriers; certainly not XTalons - far too much tarmac and hard trail.

Never done the actual race but walked and run in the area many times - trail shoes, for sure.

In the past when its been bone dry I've ran it in trail shoes but also once in road shoes, each time I've been fine. But my trail shoes are pretty much shot, because of all the rain was thinking of running in my Inov8 Mudclaw330, but not sure due to the amount of hard ground. Has anyone else done it in 330's before?

I think mudclaws would be a good call. I know a few that will be in them

Hahahahaha. I just love this topic. I run round the three peaks at least half a dozen times a year and always wear my walshes what ever the weather, ground conditions and 'dreaded' tarmac. Whats the big deal with all this wearing of different shoes? I mean honestly, I just don't understand it at all.

Yeah think I'll go for them. Had some trouble with a sore achilles a while back after I'd done a few races in the mudclaws,
not sure wether it was down to them or just coincidence, but still think its worth doing it in them. I suppose if youre an experienced fellrunner with loads of races under youre belt and you get the chance to train regularly on the terrain then you'll be confident in what to wear, even if its the same shoe for all condidtions, but because I'm fairly new to fell running and live miles away from any decent fells, I sometimes go into panick attack mode, usually just before a big race.

Tracks, bogs, rocks, road.........there isn't a shoe that'll tick all those boxes. Go for "tried & tested" & you'll be fine.

One's that fit usually my starting point - after that, one's that won't get gobbled up by unseen bogs...!!

I bet the starting field tomorrow will be full of people checking each other out (in a footwear sense naturally!)

I would say talons given the amount of extra water!
