    Escape!

OK - after some thoughts/advice/ideas please

My head is in a bit of a mess at the moment and I have a pass out from work and home next week - fancy escaping the rat race for a few days and "hiding away" somewhere with my tent for some solitude/walking/running etc.

Where would people's top places in the UK be for this?
Any insider info as to drier spots next week - or else may have to go B&B.
Was thinking Skye - never been there

    Thanks
    Rich

Not sure "drier" and "Skye" should ever be used together.

If Skye is dry enough, how about the Assynt. Monadhliath would be a good bet for solitude. And for dryness, aside from leaving the UK how about the Cairngorms, easyish to get to. Plenty of hostels and B&B's about if it's grim but it's big country where you can get away from the crowds if you want.

The munros north of Blair Athol are also nice and remote without being too far north, couple of good bothies including the "Tarf Hotel"

Oooh, Braemar might be a good bet.

The Glen Ey 5 is a great day out on quiet hills to the south, Cairngorms to the north, Lochnagar east, and miles and miles of wilds to the west.

If you can get to anywhere in the UK, why not check out the Mountain Weather Info Service, and see where looks like having the best weather and head there? The forecasts are accurate as far as I know, written in a way that makes sense to walkers/runners and so on, and they'll cover about 3-4 days hence; but if the destination isn't important that should do you, just decide a couple of days prior where you're going to go.
