Thread: Salomon Fellcross problem

    Default Salomon Fellcross problem

Had these for a few weeks and run in them 3 or 4 times - the soles have started to peel away at the toe in exactly the same place on both shoes. Is this common or likely to get worse, or am I being too fussy?

I've been really impressed with them (apart from fault) and had opted on them over my mudclaws for the LAMM in a few weeks time, but I don't know how quick/responsive Salomon's customer care is, and my worry is that if I contact them to send them back I might not have the replacements back in time to run them in before the event. If I leave it until after the event they're likely to be a bit more battered up, & they may argue that it's down to wear & tear?

I've been looking into shoe returns myself for an unrelated reason. Your contract is with the place you purchased them from. If it was a shop then you may be lucky and find that they'll exchange them there and then. If you purchased online then you'll have to send them back and the wait could be up to 12 weeks (as in my situation).

Either way you should be able to run more than that before a shoe falls apart so they can be classed as faulty.

    Alternatively, glue them back down.

Probably what I would do. It doesn't look too serious & I can never be arsed returning stuff anyway

I've used shoo goo or something similar in the past but haven't found it particularly effective. The price these were, I think I could definitely be arsed to return them

I had another pair of puma barefoot-style shoes recently where the sole came completely off after a day. Maybe I walk funny.

Keep an accurate record of the mileage you do from now on - you may need it if things get worse quickly.

If you believe they're faulty (and it sounds like they are!) and you would like Salomon/the retailer do something about it you should stop wearing them straight-away and get them looked at. The more you wear them the more worn they become and the harder it is to distinguish a manufacturing fault from wear and tear, and the less likely you are to get a favourable outcome.

I once had someone bring in a pair of boots saying the sole unit had snapped after two weeks use... he'd then continued to wear them for forrestry work for another six months. Needless to say they were absolutely destroyed there was no chance of anything being done about the problem.

Edit: just looked at your photo... I reckon I'd just superglue them.

Happened to one of mine after 6 months fell running, superglue worked a treat. Expensive shoes but IMHO worth every penny.

Still love both my pairs. still look like new, the older pair have done over 500miles (Twice what my mudclaws did). I'd stick them but might be worth a call to the retailer first. if you send the picture and tell them you need it for the race and let them decide, they may send you new ones or tell you to runn in them and then they'll decide but atleast you've given them notice and given them the opportunity to sort it.

looking at the pic I'd glue them
