    Leeds - Bradford urban fringe

Most fell races often involve not inconsiderable amounts of travel, assuming you live in the city, that is. Here a couple of urban fringe events that don’t qualify as FRs but offer just as much of a challenge. Both are very accessible to those living in the Leeds – Bradford area:

Wednesday, 30th May, The Post Hill Challenge, a 5k off-road race with a 1 in 2.5 hill (to be run twice!)

Sunday, 22nd July, The Pudsey 10k, a tough multi-terrain race with plenty of hills

Information on both races available at http://www.pudseypacers.com/

    Hi Tiff,

You'll be pleased to know I've publicised the Post Hill Challenge here... http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...allenge-30-May and have entered the race...hopefully there may be a couple more from the 'lesser spotted' Fellandale attending too.

*Personally I'd say Post Hill compares favourably with quite a few races that make it into the FRA calendar - It's possibly even a BS?

Idle trail race at the end of July too chaps..

Eldwick fell end of June too...Basically Eldwick to the baildon moor trig point and back...OK it's not leeds/bradford fringe but still close.

Harriers V cyclists too later in year on a similar course but a tad longer.

Apologies if you already knew about these....

Don't forget the Leeds Country Way Relay Leg 3 runs along that Valley as well - following Tong, Pudsey and Tyersal becks through Park and Black Carr Woods, with a couple of tough late climbs (one of which is nearly as bad as the Pudsey 10k ascent up Tyersal La!).

Shame about the section through Gildersome over the motorway junction. Spoils the leg.

...and the Baildon Carnival Canter also going up to the trig point but from Baildon - a good short fell/moorland race ideal for first-timers - on 14 July this year.

Anyone doing the Idle Trail Race on the 29th July? They are promising free photos of all runners.

Obviously I've missed the Post Hill race, but have memories of (Yorkshire) Mountain Bike (Club) races there in the early 90's, & seeing enough of the idiots trying to ride all the way down it

And, that video bears no resemblance to how steep the bloody hill is!!

Presumably West Leeds Motor Club still own the land??
