Pengeth - nice to see you on the forum old chap. I've been very active today. I've done a walk/ramble from Dovestones with some of my mates. We started from Binn Green car park and followed a path to the side of Yeoman Hey and Greenfield Resers. This brought us up to Birchen Clough - a boulder strewn valley with a stream tumbling down. Although no path is marked on the Ordnance Survey map, a well-worn trail has been trodden up the sides of the clough but f*ck me it was a bit haphazard at times and caused nerves to jangle a bit.
We then scrambled up a very steep bank to the right of the clough and on reaching the top followed a path to the right, along the edge, passing the Trinnacle and then the Raven Stones and other well weird grit-stone formations.
The track then passed over the moor over to a memorial cairn to two climbers who lost their lives in the Dolomites and continued to Bramley's Cot, an old shooting hut or shelter before finally reaching Chew reser.
We then came down the service road to the valley floor, went round the back end of Dovestones reservoir and finally back to the car park at Binns Green. A great effort all round by our lot. 10.46 miles, 1415 feet of climbing and 4 and a 1/2 hours on our feet
We then parked up and are now on our fifth pint of JW Lees Bitter
God bless you mam :w00t:
To the Regiment - I Wish I Was There
There is one teeny, insignificant difference.
At least you won't be shopped by the neighbours/interrogated by the secret police/locked in a cell for the rest of your life/be subjected to fawning speeches by St Bono and the Amnesty Brigade for making your views on this subject known!
