I always thought the first cut off at Ennerdale was a bit harsh.

If you are timed out aren't you supposed to take the shortest route back to report to race HQ? I thought carrying on was a big no no?

I believe that is the case in most races. e.g Borrowdale:

Those competitors, who retire from the Race at Honister, must return to the start/finish at Rosthwaite by road. That is, down the Honister Pass, through Seatoller to Rosthwaite.

I love the second sentence, presumably aimed at the really navigationally challenged!

Aye, it's aimed people like me.
I'd probably still have to ask which direction to go by road- do i turn left or right??

Me too. I assume it's that way because of the unique (?) nature of the race i.e. a long loop into the heart of the hills. It's a long way back from the checkpoints around the middle third of the race for those unfortunate enough to be timed out - far longer than equivalent points of Wasdale. So I guess the first timeout is designed to filter out those thought likely to be struggling come half-way?

But it could be less stringent. Think I got through it with under ten minutes to spare in 2006 ... and finished in under 3hrs40.

    Glad its not just me

I know some people didn't make the 50 min cut off last year but still finished under six hours, so it is a bit harsh

I think I'd like to have a go at this Ennerdale thing. Sounds like fun!
