That's my chosen weekend and start time too although I'm off work all week and may go earlier if the weather forecast looks poor on the weekend. It's blustery but dry here in East Yorkshire at the moment, the sky has been light enough to see by for a good 40 mins. 7pm starts would have been coming into Dunmail about then. The rainfall radar looks horrible over the lakes though.

I ran up Loughrigg yesterday evening and it was awful... the wind was very strong at 300m and torrential rain.

Still bad up here, but the wind has dropped a bit and the heavy rain is a little more patchy, in Kendal anyway.

Good luck to anyone setting off later!

.......and I thought 20th July would be quiet. Between Campylobacter and the weather, it's looking like it'll be quite busy... best sort some accomodation.

Sitting in my house in Keswick and just learned that the attempt that i was helping on leg2 has been cancelled. Looking out of the window I would say that that is a very good call although disappointing for the contender. Remember there are plenty of weekends left in the year -better to abort now rather than waste a vast amount of energy on an unsuccessful attempt. I can't imagine crossing the Caldew in this (and I crossed the Upper Esk last weekend).

Can't imagine what the Caldew must be like, river I passed last night is just about bursting it's banks and it's a low level river. The sound of running water was deafening!

We went from Conston to Wasdale and back on Friday on a Lakeland 100 reccy.
Getting back was decidedly touch and go. All those streams we had stepped over on the way out were raging torrents on the way back. We both found ourselves up to the chest in water on a couple of occasions. Considering what the Duddon looked like at 4pm, I reckon the Caldew would have been uncrossable. We could barely stand against the wind on the top of Walna Scar.
