First race Bolton or NW ?

I live in Bolton and have been venturing onto the moors and occasionally to North Wales so I'm very much a beginner/ novice.
I think I better bite the bullet and enter a race and was wondering what people think as a first race ?
No more than a 2 hr drive from Bolton and around 10 miles in distance?
What ya think ?

It's a few months away I think, and a touch over 10 miles, but I'd suggest windgather as an excellent first race.

I'd have thought either Sedbergh Hills or Three Shires would be a bit ambitious for a first race.

However, Crowden Horseshoe would be absolutely ideal.
