First time at this event for me too so can't comment from experience. However, I've been led to believe that most of the climbing is done in the first mile or so and then there is a bit more climbing at about 2/3 race distance.
Heard good reports about this event so I'm looking forward to it.
Aye done it twice. Yes start off by going up a hill. Then flatish over a sort of trail for a while then there's a hill about 4 miles later and then it just goes up and down a bit . Beautiful scenery. Cakes at the Cafe in the castle (free entry to cafe) are good but service can be slow. Also parking can be tight so early arrival is advised. I'll be the slow boy towards the back watching everyone kill themselves on the first climb, then i begin my overtaking. well hopefully! Anyway say hello , i'm number 45.
Check Beginners: First Fell Race. Hope I didn't discourage anybody thinking of this as a first fell race as it would be an excellent choice.

I reckon i saw your crew leeds Rhino , were u in a van near the control tent?
Really enjoyed the race today. Went through a bit of a bad patch between 10 and 12k but other then that a great day out.
Aye up Alf, We were the lot on the coach which was causing parking chaos for a while !
Enjoyed the race, harder than I thought it was gonna be with that hill at the start.
25 of us had a picnic on the village green and then we went down to Masham for beer and then a curry when we arrived back in Leeds
TOP DAY OUT !!!
