Bill Smith's Ashes: Saturday 11th August- Arrangements

Meet at Chipping car park for 12 mid-day. Bill's sisters Pauline, Irene and Irene's husband Jim will stay in the village while fellrunners take the ashes via footpaths to the spot where Bill died and also visit Totridge top where the memorial plaque is.

There will be an earlier start for non-runners at around 11am led by Ian Roberts.

    All are welcome.

A privilege to join the group of people today onto the Bowland fells. It was one of the best days out on the fells I've ever had, celebrating the life of a true fell running legend.

    Indeed.

Some of the best people in fellrunning were out there today.

I don't think Bill's sisters have ever really understood the affection of the community towards him- and why would they? He was just their brother.

I am disposing of some of Bill's books to runners who want them, partly because they belonged to Bill. So far through their generosity I have over £600 of donations for Pauline and Irene; which they will probably donate to either Mountain Rescue or the charity that Bill supported.

Yes, a honour to be involved.

A view of Totridge Fell from Bill's final resting place.
An enormous privilege to be able to share the day with Bill's family.

I have to agree with all the comments above. it was an honour to be able to be part of the day yesterday. Bill's sisters were lovely and the whole family were really nice. Glad we done them proud.
