I'm not a reader of blogs...where to start...and where to find another hour in the day! So it was a genuine surprise and deep pleasure to read the fabulous selection from Daz's blog that was printed in the fell runner in lieu of a formal obituary. To all those involved in this choice, I take my hat off to you for your judgement, perspicacity and emotional intelligence. Not only was it, by a million miles, the best evocation of what it is like to run a fell race, it also leaves the reader in no doubt about what a smashing bloke Daz was. A great testimony. Thank you.

Seconded yet again Steve...a touch that is understated, discrete and poignant.

    Re: Darren Holloway (Pennine)

I was at Team training last night and I thought I would give you an update on what was happening with the money you all donated to Woodhead in Darren's name.

First of all the team are very grateful for the generosity shown by his friends. We wanted to make the best of your donations and to make it relevant.

Both our team vehicles are classed as ambulances and therefore carry defibs. These are portable to a point. They are similar to those in cinemas, stations etc but are impractical to take on the hill as they are too heavy and bulky. To be effective defibs need to be used quickly after heart attack and so we really need to carry them in our packs to make sure they are available when required.

With this in mind, the first items we have chosen are two portable mountain AED's. These are automated external defibrillators. They pack to the size of a can of coke and can be carried anywhere. They will be invaluable when we are marshalling fell races and attending other incidents.

There is some money still to be spent and I will let you know what this will be spent on in due course.
