Right only two awards left to go. The evening seems to have flown by doesn't it?
First of the last two is 'Post of the year'. Like several of the other categories many voters voted for different posts. The only one to get more than one vote other than the winner was a post from Amex regarding the Darren Holloway race at Buttermere and I quote:
I Steve Taylor will post once on this thread I cleared it with Amanda prior to posting, as I am not getting into an argument on this, but as Dan says " I think You'll agree"
Well I don't.
I expect a big back lash....... not a problem I am also confident Darren would comment on this as he did with the Lance Armstrong thing.
I agree there is a huge need for an honorary event, there are MANY that wish to honour Darren and for many reasons.
To my mind all of these friends should get that chance However an A cat race, in a difficult to reach location, with a limit of 150 far from allows this.
Please tell us how newbies, crocked, long distance virgins or long distance nay sayers are supposed to do that?
This seems an 'elite and segregated' type of event, the antithesis of what Darren believed to be the true spirit of fell running.
To alienate so many especially an event with no kids races to me doesn't feel appropriate.
I realise that Darren's heart was in the lakes, a lakes race is more fitting BUT he did the longs as par for the course as they were the there to do what made him happiest was the fact everyone was running and could run together. The smaller shorter all inclusive like the Anni Waltz etc were the races he'd never miss. I know this because he cuddled me on the start line last year moments after telling him my wife had Breast cancer, one sentence he said was "this is the only place to be after that shit news"
It seems only a select few get to 'honour' him some of us will for whatever reason never be able to get up to being able to race an event of this distance so, what do we do??
I didn't catch the original post but it's a cracker and would have got my vote. Bravo Amex
