    Eldwick Gala "Fell" race

Anyone not going to Blackstone Edge this weekend might fancy their chances at this long establish local race. Starts 3:00 pm Saturday 28th June 2008. 3 miles and 550ft climb. A mere ramble up over Baildon Moor (Hope Hill) and back to the Gala Field. Its a good family afternoon out, if the weather holds, with the usual stalls and fairground attractions for the 'weans' , hotdogs and beer. There were 70 entries last year with Holmesy winning in 17'12" closely followed by Andy Peace. The cost? A mere £2:50.

    Eldwick Gala

Did this yesterday and it's the first time I've seen a false start in a fell race.
We were all charging out of the gala field when a marshal yelled 'STOP!!!' and flung himself in front of the stampede. We trooped back forlornly into the arena feeling as if we'd done something naughty....

My guess is that that traffic hadn't cleared the road and there'd been a mix-up between the marshal and the starter.

enjoyed the race though faster than last year. Got beat by my youngest son who threw up in the finish funnel and then blamed me for having pushed him too hard!
