Tell me about it. Max can leap 6ft walls. We had 3 ft walls around our garden. However, he won't jump fences or anything that isn't solid and so we stuck some trellis up on top of the walls and now he can have the run of the garden! Still have a sign up on the gate though asking poeple to shut the gate though as he'll bolt if he sees it open.
You don't have to tell me about pet insurance. Our last rescue dog had multiple health problems and every year we maxed out his £4000 a year limit on vet bills and medications. Pet Plan every time for us. More expensive than most but they insure for life and never quibble on paying out.
It's a great thread Flopsy.. just haven't had time to reply cos i've got 4 and it'll take ages!
Does anyone want a nice tabby cat? It was dumped at my work, it's a male approx 1y. Was neutered on wed, very healthy. I've got him in my house at the moment because he was going to be put down, but i can't keep him with the dogs it's too stressful for him. He is friendly and doesn't run when he sees the dogs , could easily live with a dog as long as not the cat-killing type that some of mine are....
Whot????? The one you gave us has never kill owt.
Best friend anyone could ever have.
Oh and he doun't eat bacon or ham any more, just beef or chicken.
And he will only eat expensive dog food I think he reads the till reciept from the supermarket.
Shhhhhhiiiiissssss he is asleep and he's only had 21hour sleep today, he will be grumpy if anyone wakes him.
Not at all, its a great thread.
We got our mut from a local rescue center http://www.justfordogs.org/.
In fact he chose us. While looking around all the dogs were jumping up and barking. Billy (as in Billy no mates) barked then rolled over and showed us his belly. That was it, we couldnt go home without him.
After several comedy moments, some painful, he has turned out to be a great running partner and we wouldn,t be without him.

How does he get on with other cats? We have a cat and two collies who all get on fine with one another. We had two cats but one died just over a year ago and we're wanting another.
The cat we have is a rescue cat from the local shelter. Had him over 8 years now.
The two collies are both rescue from SHAK in Northumberland. Sparky (the one on the right in my avatar) was a bit of a mess mentally when he arrived at the shelter as he had clearly been abused. If anyone went near him even to put a lead on he would cower in the corner and pee himself. Anyway after he'd been at the shelter a while and began to trust people again I was asked by the guy that runs it if I'd be interested so I went to meet the dog. He is an absolute stunner and I fell in love with him instantly (and without blowing my own trumpet, he took to me straight away as well). We've had him 18 months now and although he can still be a bit nervous around strangers he's nowhere near as bad as he was. He was still quite young when we got him so he''ll be about 2 and a half now.
Also, being the softy I am, while I was at the shelter there was another collie called Skip in the next kennel (the one on the left in my avatar) who looked absolutely miserable stuck in a kennel but was such a friendly thing and aged about 4 years. Anyway I couldn't stop thinking about him and a week later I went and got him
We go running with each other virtually everyday and I always have a big grin seeing them running around happy. They are both fabulous dogs and it makes me so sad when I think of what they've had to go through to get to where they are now.

Oven Gloves, the cat gets on with everyone and everything, can't see why he would be a problem with other cats, although you can never tell as they're not social. But he certainly isn't a fighter, more timid. All he's done is sit on a cushion and look worried so far!
Any sensible cat would be worried in my house. Poor thing hasn't eaten for 48 hours, i hope i can find him a home. He probably has a personality under there somewhere!
My dogs are:
Brown Dog.. she's a bull cross type lurcher, age 7, smallish, looks like a dingo. She was a stray in Cardiff, rehomed several times but too lively. A brilliant fell runner, or was until tore a cruciate. Now she's semi-retired and will never be the first non-collie to do a BGR as i was hoping . She's rather feisty with alot of attitude, nothing like her owner.
Pedwar (8-9y ish) is a very handsome largeish deerhound type lurcher, he was seized after being abandoned in a shed. He was very poorly socialised and has alot of anxiety issues, but we muddle on with him. His latest symptom is p***ing on the bathmat every night. Mainly he sleeps alot.
Spare Dog (age 10) was an RSPCA seizure, emaciated and covered in sores, no hair, pus oozing of the skin.. yuk. After couple months food and treatment she recovered but the untreated skin condition had caused her to contract a kidney disease so she was given 6 months to live. She obviously didn't agree cos that was in Sept 2011 and she can gallop round like the clappers with the lurchers. Her kidneys are on borrowed time but she's not unwell with it yet, so she will carry on enjoying the best time in her life for as long as she's got. Owner was fined and banned from keeping animals.
Eddie is an 8yo collie x GSD. He is a very easy going chilled out dude who is obsessed with tennis balls. his first owner died, then he was rehomed to someone who brought him back after a year cos he had a benign lump which needed to be removed and they didn't want to pay for it! Eddie's main fault is a long shaggy coat which attracts wet and mud.
I specialise in dogs with problems because i can, but don't ever think that a 'rescue' dog = problems.. there are literally thousands who have no medical or behavioural issues, just find themselves up for rehoming through bad luck. The longer they stay in kennels, the more damaged they might become, so get one now instead of buying a puppy...... (naughty Stolly!)
Down to two Greyhounds now:
Polly (black) 8 ish came from a racing stable as a puppy when they decided she wasn't going to be a racer.
Eddie (Brown) 12 ish rescued at deaths door by a Greyhound rescue group from a group of travellers, they didn't expect him to live, he then spent 2 years in kennels as they did not think he was rehomeable. We took him as a temporary foster 3 years ago but decided within an hour that he was not going back. He is a real chilled out lad.
The terrier in the pic was rescued at 3 weeks old and lived with us for 15 years but sadly passed on last year.
Frequent but moderate workouts on a consistent basis are the key to success
