    Chair Step-ups

With regards to Chair Step-ups and leg strengthening, does anybody do this type of activity and would they recommend it?

I live in a flat part of the country, so there isn't many hills around me unless I travel. Was looking to work on strengthening the legs for future fell races and wondered if anyone else did this as part of their training?

Seems perfectly valid to me to develop quad, glute and calf strength although I would perhaps be looking for long flights of stairs to climb two at a time - using running back down as practice for foot/leg speed in descending - and also as recovery from the 'up' phase.

If you're in Kirkby then a run up Billinge Hill, Crank Hill and Moss Bank Hill from Carr Mill Dam on the A580 give some opportunity for running hills.

-I wish I still had a route like that on my doorstep!

Yep I suppose I could use Billinge, I used to cycle up that years ago. Only thing is if I run to Billinge, i'll be worn out before I even run up it. I could drive to Rainford and go from there. Ashurst Beacon is a favourite haunt too.

    Cheers.
