Well specc'd, anybody got one? It's my first road bike and I want a bike for sportives and long days in the saddle.

Any views good or bad would be appreciated.

    Cheers

for £499 does not look too bad if you can get him to throw in a pair of spd pedals. just got the shoes to buy then. or full clip in road pedals which tend to be a bit more expensive
has alloy frame and carbon forks with Tiagra throughout.
just look around for any 2012 bikes going at sale prices at places such as wheelbase or leisure lakes. not sure about shops down your way

Merlin's own brand MTB frames are made for them by Kinesis. If they've carried that relationship across to the road bikes, there won't be anything much wrong with it.
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!

My Malt 4 MTB has lasted very well indeed and the spec for the money was quite outstanding; Merlin are also really nice people to do business with. The Malt 4 frame is unashamedly Kinesis as already mentioned and is very 'sorted' but the paint job is not that tough. I would certainly go back to them if I were looking for that n+1 bike.

I'll second their customer service, they are a great bunch of lads and that convinced me to buy a Malt 2 from them. When my old road bike finally pegs it, I'll probably go to them for a replacement.
