So if he's likely to go jail then shouldn't she go too, put them in a shared cell and that should sort them out.

(And didn't the Blair guy tell some pretty tall stories as well?)

I once told my missus I'd put her down for a speeding fine as I'd got a couple already, I hadn't, but she didn't speak to me for a week.

This must happen from time to time, though I suspect many "we do not know who was driving" cases are just an attempt to get away with it - does anyone know what the law says in such cases?

If he had been the evil mastermind we're portraying him to be, he would have spotted that he had been photgraphed by the camera, taken his car onto the moors, burnt it out to avoid fingerprints, then reported his car stolen. That way no-one gets 3 points, and he gets a new car on the insurance.

Next steps: Become the leader of the Lib Dems. Get involved in shady deals with the army and security forces. Launch a bloodless coup. Take control of the country. Engineer a global threat, take control of the EU army...

Aren't we lucky we found him out at this early stage.

The right to remain silent has been tested in court and failed (i.e. refuse to say who was driving). You legally have to declare who was driving the vehicle.

But what if you truly cannot recall, and decide not to allocate them?

To think what all this has cost him - his career, £500,000 in legal fees, he will end up in jail - and he lost his licence anyway - and that is not counting the effect it has had on his family life. I did not think I would, but I do feel a bit sorry for him.

I don't feel sorry for him at all or for any politician that gets found out for dodgy dealings. These guys are the ones that set the laws of the land, so if they can't abide by them, well they need the book thrown at them.
It does just go to show as well that the squeaky clean, holier than though Lib Dems haven't been. It's just that until they fluked a roll in the coalition government, they were a largely insignificant bunch that slipped below the radar.
Under the same scrutiny as Labour and Tory politicians, they are showing themselves to be no different.

I'm thoroughly disenchanted with the whole lot of them.

Just think if he had become the libdem leader before this all came out.

We could have ended up with another Jeremy Thorpe and then we could have got into (forum dog lovers look away now!)
    serious dog shooting territory

Definitely a good job he was found out
