To the Fat Boys club runner last night at the Hathersage Fell Race who tried to shoulder barge me into the silver car and then the first aid station on the final sprint round the field:

You said you were going for the "racing line". That means taking the quickest route, not deliberately trying to injure other runners. Outsprinting you was a real pleasure.

Last nights TRUNCE, group of runners all lined up nicely, and patiently waiting for their turn to pass through the kissing gate on the way down to the river, and what happens......
some (im ashamed to say) Dark Peak Runner, assumes that it is ok to bypass the assembled runners, and vault over the fence at the side of the gate, thereby gaining half a dozen or so places
i mean, if it was so easy we would all do it wouldnt we ***head. the fence and gate are there for a reason after all

my experiences to date with the Fat Boys have been nothing but positive - you'd be hard pushed to find a nicer bunch of people.

I remember a similar fence/stile bottle neck at a cross-country where one runner jumped the queue and got all tangled up trying to squeeze under the barbed wire. He was still there by the time I went over the stile! Serves the bugger right...
Surely as long as you don't touch the fence its ok to jump it?
At Boar's Head it's considered stylish to bypass one of the stiles by going through the hole for dogs ;-)

Not so Matt,
If the course shows through the gate then jumping a fence is clearly gaining an unfair advantage.
If on the other hand the course is unmarked and just point to point providing and no damage to the boundary marker is caused and no private land crossed then you have a fair point.
It’s a point of knowing what the course is and what the organiser will accept.
