I try to thank marshals on the way round (and cars if on the road if they stop) but as an organiser it is always nice to receive email thanks. It is even better to find someone has written a (positive) race report for their club and posted it on the net, then email a link. Makes it worthwhile.

I've emailed organisers for a couple of races that I've really enjoyed. Never had any reply though. But I always just thought they got loads and couldn't reply to everything.
I think I'll walk this bit....

    Interesting you mention this...

...I was forwarded an email in regard to the Edale Skyline artice in the current Fellrunner. They were shocked I hadn't thanked the marshalls, organisers etc. in my article. They thought I seemed totally oblivious to the marshalls efforts and implied I was unaware of the time and effort taken to organise such events.

In my defence I wrote, "I make a clear point of regularly thanking marshals, particularly those on summits, whilst I am in races. I often thank organisers at the end of races, either in person or by email. I have rang a number of race organisers to enquire about results, again thanking them for their organisational efforts. Running for a local club I will often offer my support or help at registration, or on the course if I am not competing."
Why walk when you can run.

Aye, Swoop, I always make a point of thanking walkers who move to one side, they have just as much right to be there as us so it's nice of them to accommodate us.

And marshalls, yes, only takes a second to say thanks to people without whom the races couldn't go ahead.

Yes, I always thank the marshalls without them the race wouldnt happen,There has been a couple of races I have done and the weather has been terrible Tour of pendle (last year) being one of them, do you remember? There was 1 guy who stood at CP4 and he was also there for the last checkpoint.(bet he was cold)
I sent an email to the organiser thanking all the Marshalls on the day.

I was having a chat with a lovely lady at a race over the weekend, and she said it would be great if ALL competitors marshalled for at least one race a year AND did timekeeping once a year.
    1) It would ease pressures on finding marshals
    2) Every competitor would then understand the commitment that goes into organising a race.
    3) They would appreciate the races that they can just turn up and run. I know I do when I get the chance!

What a guy! That was the legendary Bill "Studmarks on The Summit" Smith.
Well over 70 and still smiling after nearly 4 hours as I struggled with the last disc.
