    Rome - where to stay

    Has anyone been to Rome?

We are off for long weekend and I have no idea where to start looking for accommodation - can anyone recommend an "area" of rome to look for accommodation in?

Needs the usual - near the tourist stuff, restaurants for evening meals etc

NB - no interest in nightclubs etc - happily tucked up in bed these days

    Cheers

choose a hotel wisely there is a good side and bad side to this city it reminds me of amsterdam if you have been there you will have the picture but there is some fantastic sites
but beware of the trams especially if you hire a car
as to hotel cant comment on a good 1 as we never stayed central

Hotel D'Inghilterra ! Stayed there on my honeymoon way back in 1996 & it was fantastic. A stones throw from The Spanish Steps. Get one of the rooms at the top with views over the rooftops.

We had a great few days in Rome in October last year and stayed in a great little hotel a couple of miles outside the city, easy to get into the centre by bus or walk to the metro or a long walk as we did one day, great for finding restaurants. See my link on trip advisor http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_R...ome_Lazio.html
    enjoy

We're having a few days in Venice in September (after 12 days walking the AV1 across the Dolomites) and have found a really nice apartment though www.airbnb.com - an alternative to hotels, they'll have loads of properties listed in Rome.

Hotel Villa Borghese was an excellent place to stay 12 years ago - with the park opposite to run in. Were I to go again I would happily stay in the same place. It is a bit of a walk away from the most touristy bits, but if you want to see a lot you will need to do quite a bit of walking no matter where you stay.

We have used the following website for apartments in Rome and Venice.
