Perhaps we should start an exclusive section of "Bus Pass Challenges" for over 60's who incorporate their bus pass on a long solo outing. I'm sure you will think of something!

Τhe problem is that Welsh and English passes do not mix!

Top man Moley! Those little pond-skittering legs not much use in b*llock high heather by the sounds of it!
Night running is something very special....the mind becomes a different beast. Well done for wrestling it to the ground.

Only one problem now...you will not be able to catch your tortoises!!

What you're account doesn't say is how far it is for those who don't know the details! It's approx 57 miles with 13/14,000ft of uphill!! Good use of the bus pass by my reckoning moley. What a year you're having. 1st over 60 in the Preseli Beast race too, which must have helped for this.

Well, I've travelled a bit and seen some heather in my time, but that post-Milltir Calluna thicket is up there with the worst. And you did it IN THE DARK???

A testament to your fitness, toughness and determination. Although I do worry a little about your sanity...

Seriously, a superb effort Moley. A gorgeous route (apart from the aforementioned).

Speaking in Matt's defence, I will say that if you cannot see what comes next, you feel less intimidated.

Thank you Yiannis, it was all a cunning plan to mentally help me through - I am not mad at all

I did look at the section from Milltir to Geifr once, a good 8 years ago and I remember it being hard but ok (in daylight), I'm sure there were some sheep about then and a few trods, I saw no sheep and little sign of grazing - but heard a lot of grouse which was compensation. I picked up the short trod from the top of Sian-Llwyd, which I remembered, but only as far as the footpath which disects the line. With the intense darkness it was impossible to pick up trods on sight, even when very close by.

I had never seen the next section from Geifre to the Bwlch, that was very slow navigating (for me) without visibility and I was very annoyed to make the silly mistake at the end and come out at 917229, I had hit the fenceline at about the 582 spotheight and rattled down to the road without checking the spur or bearing of the fence.

I was that frustrated by it all I nearly bought an GPS when I got home :w00t:
