Anybody run The Dales Way ? If so, what are your thoughts ? And how long did it take you. I'm thinking 2 lots of 40 miles over 2 days.

will watch this with interest- I was only looking at this on the map last night!
I know a couple of guys who did it earlier this year in a day as a training run for the Fellsman, Jez. It was during the snowy period but they had a great clear, frosty day/night for it. They did it in 21:50. Blog here.
The land at the end of our toes goes on and on and on.
Jez, I thought there'd be quite a few Ilkley Harriers who've done large sections of it during their annual relay. No luck there?

Without me you'd be one place nearer the back
I did the full route last November in just over 19 hours. I started at 8pm at Ilkley with three others off here, Rachel, ChrisH, Adam P. Jess P did a couple of soup stops for us at Grassington, Kettlewell and Buckden. Not bad weather, but some heavy rain during the early hours around Cam and Dent Head. A bit short of ascent for the overall distance, but all in all not a bad run out. Nav straightforward, but you need to keep abreast of things for the last 10 miles into Bowness as all the field crossings are pretty similar.
cheers M
Right, cheers for that Matt. Thinking of doing it in reverse & running "home" to Ilkley.
Jez, the inaugural record for the Dales Way was set in the early-mid 80's by Dennis Beresford, one of Clayton's hard men of that era; IIRC it was 13 hours and some. Someone else went faster, but I seem to recall that Dennis recaptured the record. I would need to go in the loft and dig out the old FRM's from that era ( yes, got them all neatly filed away, Feb '84 to the present ). Try googling the Clayton website, there might be some details. Look at the 2nd thread down on page 36 of this long distance challenges file. Ian.

I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!
I've thought of doing this before Jez, I'll be very interested to know how you get on. When are you thinking of?

We ran it as a club training weekend several years ago but got snowed off just above Cam Houses. It's a fantastic and very scenic route and great running. I remember Dennis Beresford from Clayton many years ago running it several times and in a fantastic time .He had a bit of an obsession with it and made it his own! Good luck to anybody attempting it, you are sure to enjoy it !
